GOSPEL MEETINGS

Gospel meetings come and go, but what is our attitude about them? Some people will complain when the church plans a gospel meeting. They think that going to "church" is only something they do on Sunday, and maybe Wednesday, if nothing else comes up that they would rather do. But there is one 'meeting' that none of us wants to miss (1 Thess.4:17).

The local church has regular meetings (Acts 20:7), for which we come together to observe the Lords Supper, hear the word of the Lord preached, sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs (Eph.5:19), and give as we have been prospered(1 Cor.16:2). There also are evangelistic meetings from time to time. These meetings are sometime for the whole community and at other times they are on a smaller scale (Acts chapter 10). Some times there are special meeting, some to determine if there is era being taught (Acts chapter 15), and sometimes to take care of disciplinary problems (1 Cor.5:4,5).

What should our attitude be when there is a Gospel Meeting planed for the community? First we should be faithful to attend all meetings (Acts 2:42), and be ready "...to hear all things that are commanded thee of God" (Act 10:33) . We should get ready for a meeting by praying about it(Acts 10:2), inviting and influencing others (Acts 10:24).

Let us determine to do our best the next time a meeting is planed to make it the best Gospel Meeting it can be. God has done His part, by His providence we have the place to hold the meeting, the evangelist to preach the word, and a country that allows us to meet and preach the gospel without fear. A GOSPEL MEETING IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE EFFORT THAT WE THE MEMBERS PUT INTO IT.
